Club Fixtures and Court Schedule
Set out below is the Lowlands Club Tennis Court Schedule - as approved by the Tennis AGM
This Schedule sets out which activities take priority on the tennis courts at the times set out below - with the proviso that the following activities take 'super-priority' at all times:
- Lowlands team matches against external opposition;
- Winter Team Shield matches;
- American Tournaments or similar sanctioned by the Tennis Committee;
- LTA open days;
- The Lowlands Open Tournament;
- The Lowlands Closed Tournament Finals Day;
- Use of courts by the club's coaching staff as provided for below;
- Formal team practice sessions organised by the club's coaching staff.
Mondays 6:30pm - 9:30pm:
- Off-peak members' club session - 4 courts. Remaining courts not required for coaching are available to full and junior members for Open Play.
Tuesdays 6:30pm - 9:30pm:
- Open Play on all courts not required for coaching purposes or Lowlands team matches.
Wednesdays 6:30pm - 9:30pm:
- Full members' club session - 6 courts (unless court 6 is required for coaching). Provided any court is not being used for club session or for coaching, full members may commence - and play in its entirety - a postal tournament match on that court.
Thursdays 6:30pm - 9:30pm:
- Open Play on all courts not required for coaching purposes or Lowlands team matches.
Fridays from 5:00pm:
- Juniors only - except 7:00pm - 9:30pm, when there is Open Play on 3 courts.
Saturdays 10:00am - 1:30pm:
- Off-peak members' club session - 3 courts. Any remaining courts not required for coaching are available to full and junior members for Open Play. If courts 4, 5 or 6 are free they may be used by off-peak members, but they must be vacated either (i) after 40 minutes or one set (whichever comes first) if required by other members, or (ii) immediately if required for coaching.
Saturdays 1:30pm - 5:00pm:
- Full members' club session - 6 courts (unless court 6 is required for coaching). Provided any court is not being used for the club session or for coaching, full members may commence - and play in its entirety - a postal tournament match on that court. Off-peak and junior members may use courts not in use for the above purposes for Open Play, except that such courts must be vacated immediately should they be required by full members or for coaching.
Saturdays 7:00pm - 9:30pm:
- Social Tennis members' club session - 3 courts. Any remaining courts not required for coaching are available to other members for Open Play.
Sundays 10:00am - 1:00pm:
- Full members' club session - 6 courts, except that coaches have priority on court 6 all day other than between 11:00am and 12:00noon. Off-peak and junior members may use courts not in use for the above purposes for Open Play, except that such courts must be vacated immediately should they be required by full members or for coaching.

Important Notes Accompanying this Schedule:
Meaning of Open Play (includes informal fixed fours/singles, box league, postal tournaments, and Lowlands Closed Tournament rounds):
- Open Play periods are as stated above, plus at all other times not designated as club sessions. During Open Play, vacant courts will generally operate on a first come, first served, basis - i.e. if all courts are occupied and members are waiting to come on, courts must be vacated after 40 minutes, or after one set if earlier. However, those already playing a Lowlands Closed Tournament match are permitted to complete that match. Box league matches and postal matches also benefit from this ruling during Open Play - except on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings, and Saturday mornings.
Courtside Blackboards:
- These may be used for announcing Lowlands team matches, postal matches, plus other events sanctioned by the Tennis Committee or the club’s coaching staff. In the case of matches arranged by individual members, however, such indication cannot be used to reserve a specific court or courts.
Score Indicators:
- As a courtesy to those waiting, the progress of games/sets completed must be indicated on each court at all times during both Open Play and club sessions.
Guests:
- Members are discouraged from bringing guests during times of high court usage (e.g. Tuesday evenings and Thursday evenings) and in any event should restrict the number of times a particular guest is invited to 4 times within an annual period (guest fees are £2, £3 floodlit, £1 juniors at all times - and should be paid in advance). If your guest would like to join Lowlands - please email Kevin.
Juniors:
- Juniors have the same court access rights as other members during Open Play periods, but are encouraged to use courts as early in the evening as possible, e.g. between 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm.
Mobile Phones:
- As a courtesy to other players, no active mobile phones are to be brought on court.
Disputes:
- Any disagreement over the interpretation of this Schedule shall be mediated upon by the Tennis Captain.
