Lowlands Tennis Section
The tennis at Lowlands is vibrant, busy and enjoyable. The quality of the club has been recognised by the LTA by awarding us Clubmark Status. The Club has now also achieved TennisMark status, which was awarded as we have safe systems in place for our staff, venue and competitive programmes.
We have four tennis sections to cover juniors and adults of varying abilities. Each section has its own individual social sessions where players can mix in and play doubles with different players. Balls and floodlighting are included in annual membership fees. There is also ample opportunity for players to arrange their own matches during free court time. To encourage young adult players the membership fees are reduced for young adults as well as juniors.
We have six floodlit courts, 3 Claytex carpet and 3 artificial clay courts all of which are regularly maintained. We also have a small junior court.
We have teams regularly competing in external competitions during both the summer and winter seasons, including 7 men’s and 4 women’s teams in the Middlesex summer league, the Middlesex Cup, AEGON team tennis and senior leagues (Age 40+ for Women and 45+ for Men).
There is an annual summer tournament for single, doubles and mixed tennis including competitions for vets. We have a well-supported Finals Day each September. We have a range of Winter teams including: 3 Men’s , 2 ladies’, 2 Mixed, 4 Mixed Seniors, Middlesex Cup and Junior teams. We also run winter completions for people of all abilities such as the Currie Cup for Men and Ladies and Shapla Cup for Men. We also have box leagues for players who enjoy competitive singles.
Lowlands has a strong coaching team providing individual lessons and group sessions for members and non-members. They actively support the junior section including arranging under 14 and under 18 teams.
As a club we are developing links with local schools to encourage tennis within the community and to increase the numbers of juniors joining Lowlands as tennis members.
Each year we are allocated a number of Wimbledon tickets. In 2016 we had 54 tickets. Members can enter a ballot for Wimbledon tickets each Spring. Members are encouraged to register with the LTA as our registered numbers determine our Wimbledon ticket allocation.
There is an active Tennis Committee drawn from members which works to improve and develop the playing experience of members.
Tennis players whether new to the game or experienced are encouraged to apply for membership by contacting our tennis captain David Knight (07946352099 or David.Knight@nhs.net) who will arrange a play-in in the most suitable club section for your abilities.
