Final: Costas Papantoniou beat Jason Sugrue 11-13, 11-8, 11-13, 11-7, 11-9
The above score line in the semi-final doesn’t tell the story, 16 year old Mitchellwas leading the previous seven times singles winner Costas 2-1 and 10-6 in the fourth, with only one more point needed, the son of Costas, called a ‘time out’ and the rest is history, Mitchell’s moment for this year had gone, but watch this space!!!!!
Mitchell Jones & Roger Pyle (Lowlands) beat Jason Sugrue (Microlease) & Laikram Persaud(London Academy) 12-10, 4-11, 8-11, 14-12, 11-5
Amazingly Mitchellrecovered his composure and overcame the disappointment of losing the singles, with a magnificent win with his Lowlands team mate Roger Pyle. Their opponents Jason, a highly rated Irish International player and Laikram who was this year’s top dog in the Vets final, were beaten in five. A tactical change by Mitchell playing slow top spin loops to Jason, swung the match in the Lowlands players favour.
Veteran men's singles
Laikram Persaud (London Academy) beat Gary Morgan (Vagabonds) 10-12, 11-8, 11-4, 11-5
Branislav Živković (Lowlands) beat Steve Pascoe (Lowlands)
The son of Lowlands coach Radovan, Branislav, at just 12 years old was too strong for Steve Pascoe also of Lowlands in the Intermediate singles which is a competition for players from divisions 3 and 4 of the Wembley & Harrow League.
Cadet boys’ singles
Claudiu Andrei (Greenhouse CCA) beat Siddhant Rawal (Lowlands) 9-11, 11-8, 3-11, 11-8, 15-13
This was an excellent match between to very talented young players and Lowlands Siddhant was in a very strong position to take the match, however his opponent had the benefit of strong support from the large crowd from his club, Greenhouse, and this certainly was to his advantage. This was one of three trophies won by Claudiu on finals night.
