HOW WE CALCULATE HANDICAPS
Apart from the automatic shot reduction for the winners, the system is based on the CONGU system with a few variations to suit our circumstances.

Automatic Cuts
1.) the winner will be cut one shot
2.) second place will be cut 0.5 shot
Additional Adjustments
Additional adjustments will be made based upon an individuals play compared with the field of the day.

The average score of the day (the SSP ) will be calculated by summing all returned cards and dividing by the number of entries
1.) If you finished lower than the SSP (ie with less points) your exact handicap will go up. The difference between the SSP and your score will be calculated and multiplied by 0.1 shots. The total will be added to the current handicap and will become your current exact handicap. Exact handicaps are in decimal points. 00.5 and above is rounded up to the next whole number, 00.4 and below is rounded down. This becomes your new  society handicap.
2.) If you scored more points than the SSP your exact handicap will go down. We take the difference between the SSP and your score and multiply it by the handicap "factor" (see below). The total will be taken from your current handicap and will become your current exact  handicap. Exact handicaps are in decimal points, 00.5 and above you round up to the next whole number, 00.4 and below are rounded down. This becomes your new society handicap.

The SSP will be rounded down/up

The handicap factor:
1.) Handicaps 1- 9.5 will be cut by 0.1 per point over SSP
2.) Handicaps 9.6 -19.5 will be cut by 0.2 per point over SSP
3.) Handicaps 19.6 to 28.4 will be cut by 0.3 per point over SSP
4.) Handicaps 28.5 to 36.4 will be cut by 0.4 per point over SSP

The maximum handicap for Gentlemen (including Dave the Windmill) is 28.4
The maximum handicap for Ladies is 36.4

Worked examples - at Stanmore (Winter Whatever 09) the SSP was 23.31 (23)
1.) Winner: Nigel Parbrook (current handicap 15, scored 31 points)
                # automatic 1 shot reduction = 14
                # 31 -  23 = 8
                # 8 * 0.2 = 1.6
             New Exact Handicap = 12.4
2.) Second Place: BeerRaj (current handicap 28, scored 30 points)
                # automatic 0.5 shot reduction = 27.5
                # 30-23 =7
                # 7 * 0.3 = 2.1
                 New Exact Handicap = 25.4
3.) 11th Place: Brian Hallett (Current handicap 22, scored 20 points)
                # 23-20 = 3
                # 3 * 0.1 = 0.3
             New Exact Handicap = 22.3
